The Board of Trustees has appointed thirteen members, led by the newly appointed Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Eno-Obong Bassey Akpan, to oversee university policy, management and public relations — inaugurated at a hybrid ceremony at the Etim Ekpo campus.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Uto Ukpanah, conducted the inauguration of the 4th Governing Council at a hybrid ceremony held at the University campus in Etim Ekpo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, 8 June 2026. The new Council, under the leadership of Chairman Dr. Eno-Obong Bassey Akpan, has been charged with overseeing the policies, management and public relations of Obong University.
The ceremony was attended by the University's founders, Professor Moses Akpanudo and Adiahaobong (Mrs) Jessie M. Akpanudo, members of the Board of Trustees, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Umana, and academic and administrative staff of the University.
"As we inaugurate this 4th Governing Council, we are opening a new chapter of systemic growth. To whom much is given, much is expected. The choices before us require bold administrative execution and a steadfast adherence to our core pillars. I challenge this council to not merely manage, but to elevate our positioning globally, building a legacy that matches the vision of our founders."
In her inauguration speech, Mrs. Ukpanah commended the character, professional expertise and moral credence of the appointees, expressing confidence that they would collectively help build the University to greater heights. She charged Council members to remain true to their record of professionalism and integrity, and prayed for divine guidance as they work to position Obong University as the preferred institution of tertiary education in Nigeria and globally.
"Stay true to your emblems of professionalism, integrity, and the track records of excellence for which you are known — and may God's guidance be with this Council as it begins working in earnest to position Obong University as the preferred institution of tertiary education in Nigeria and globally."
"This appointment is an honour we receive with gratitude and humility. We are stewards, and we pledge the commitment of the 4th Governing Council to good governance — through leadership that listens, learns, and works diligently for a greater and stronger Obong University."
