The 4th Governing Council Convenes Its First Meeting at Obong Ntak

One month after its inauguration, the 4th Governing Council of Obong University held its first meeting on Wednesday, 8 July 2026 — gathering physically, for the first time, at the University campus in Obong Ntak, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, under the chairmanship of Dr. Eno-Obong Bassey Akpan, Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor.

Having been inaugurated at a hybrid ceremony in June, Council members chose to convene this maiden meeting in person so as to see the University firsthand — walking the grounds, inspecting facilities and engaging directly with the men and women who run the institution daily. The physical assessment of the campus formed a central part of the day’s agenda, giving members a clear, practical picture of the University’s present state and its possibilities.

In attendance were the Chairman of Council and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Eno-Obong Bassey Akpan; the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Umana; the Executive Director of Development, Mr. Imo Akpanudo; the Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. E. A. G. Imeh; and the Director of ICT, Obong University, Mr. Idio Abasiekeme — alongside other members of the Council and principal officers of the University.

Deliberations centred on charting a bold path of development for the University. Drawing on their on-the-ground assessment, members proposed meaningful projects aimed at empowering the school and repositioning it as a modern institution — spanning infrastructure renewal, the modernisation of ICT and learning facilities, and initiatives designed to enrich the student experience and strengthen the University’s standing.

The meeting reflects the Council’s pledge at inauguration: leadership that listens, learns and works diligently for a greater and stronger Obong University. Members departed with a shared resolve to translate the day’s proposals into visible, lasting impact on the campus and its community.
